“The Babysitter”

A one-of-a-kind original sculpture by Cheryl Bollenbach

  15 inches in height

Sorry, The Babysitter has been sold

The Babysitter depicts an Apache grandmother of the nineteenth century. The dolls are sculpted from Cernit. Cradle board is custom-made by the artist of willow and leather with Sculpey “elk tooth” adornments. Costuming is hand-painted leather, and tinklers are made from a Pepsi can. A lot of research and attention to detail has gone into creating a costume that is accurate for the time period of the early 1800’s. Movement was an important part of the costuming of the Native Americans, and the long twisted, green-dyed leather fringe and metal tinklers provided both movement and sound.

Her head, hands and feet are sculpted of Cernit that has been hand-painted with meticulous detail in fine acrylic paint.  The fabric body has been needle sculpted over a wire armature. She has a mohair wig, antique beads and a solid wood stand.
